It's changed direction again!

I might add another border, probably including more triangles, but I'm a bit busy with other things at the moment so it will have to wait.

Thanks Ton - this one has been a real challenge and ended up nothing like the original!

On to the Next Round

Thanks for the advice re the border. As you can see I decided to go for red.

The 9 patches on the left are hand dyes given to me by a quilting friend. Unfortunately there were only 6. The block top right is made up of tiny, tiny squares I received in a swap.

I'm thinking of using the hand dyes for the next border, as per the photo, and adding some more red on the right.

I'll then switch over for the next round with the tiny squares on the right and more red on the left, but I may  not get that far!

I know it's not at all similar to the original quilt design, but this seems to be gaining some sort of momentum and I like the way its going.

Centre Block Done

I'm in a bit of a quandary about the border though. Not too sure which colours to use. Black would make the dark purples on the edge disappear, as would a dark blue. I was thinking perhaps yellow, but there is too much of that in the block and red would make the red top left disappear too.

Any ideas?

Joining the Lib Am Challenge!

I'm dreadful at posting, but I am brimming over with ideas for this Challenge as I adore Amish Abstractions. Hardly a week goes passed without me looking at the book and drooling over the quilts.

I'm currently gathering ideas for another Lib Amish Quilt.

This is my first one which I'm still hand quilting

S is for Stripes or Strings

which is based on Roman Stripes.

For my second quilt, I'm hoping to do this one.

I'm thinking a combination of strings and blocks. I have some lovely orphans and have just received some tiny tiny solid squares - I'm talking 1" maximum!

I'll be back soon when I've got the centre done.

Colours of Life

I made this for the Liberated Round Robin Challenge, but didn't finish it as the last round was curves and it was getting too big to do squiggles.

As it was my Mother's 80th birthday party last week and I was going back to the UK for it, I needed something to give her.

She's been on at me for ages to make her a lap quilt to keep her knees warm so I pulled this out, took a deep breath and machine quilted it. Just straight lines, using 1" masking tape as a guide. Not bad for a first attempt!

Next up - Alex revisited. I made this in March for DD's birthday. There was a hiccup on the binding so I unpicked it , cut the bat and backing back and started again. A lot better.

Another quilt for DD. Still a Wip. The sewing machine chewed up the bottom row and there is already a split seam. Yet more unpicking, add a bit more white between the bottom 2 rows and then white borders. Thinking about a black binding, but will probably go for white.

I tried Tonya's way of doing a W, but it looked lumpy. So I used Lynne's method. It's not for the faint hearted! A lot of fabric ended up in the bin, but I got there in the end.

Now to have a rummage to find suitable fabric for the exclamation mark at the end.

Playing with Words

During a recent sewing room clear up, I found some letters I had been working on and forgotten about.

My daughter "politely" reminded me that this quilt is meant for her and why hadn't I finished it.  Doh! Other projects got in the way.

So over the last few days I've been working diligently away trying to make some inroads in to it.

I wasn't at all sure about the green, but it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.

Two Finishes

Letters of Friendship

I've been dying to show this, but I couldn't as it was sent to Tonya with my Bah Humbug letters and she's only just received them.

I've called it Letters of Friendship.

Just a little something to thank her for all that she's done!

I'm Done

Despite the problem with Hummmm, I've really enjoyed this challenge.  At long last, I'm beginning to feel happy with my letters.  It's only taken about goodness know's how many years!  I'm finding it easier to contrast fabric and have taught myself to be patient and not jump in so fast I end up making a complete mess of it.

Thank's Ton.  It's been fun! I may try to make another Hum if I have time in between the red and white blocks.

All humm'ed out

It doesn't zing as much as the first one did, but I can't do anything about it now.

I've also started the bug.  I don't own a lot of bug fabric and cut into some which I got for my little niece's quilt, so it's a bit babyish.  If this was a Halloween theme I'd be fine!

I'll get this finished off tomorrow.  I'm sooo knackered.  That second hum didn't flow as well as the first one - I tried too hard.

If it's too long, cut it!

I finished piecing Hummmmm  yesterday.

I  looked at it again this morning, before joining the letters, and have decided to cut the mmmmm in half - it's nearly 17" long!!!!!!! which, together with the H and U makes this very very long!

Tonya - I promise I'll go back to making smaller letters - I got slightly carried away!

Addendum - I'm going to redo it.  The H and U are far too big so make new ones and cut the mmmm in half. Tonya - orphan letters on their way!
